Care at Denville
Denville Hall prides itself on its special atmosphere. We place the greatest value on the dignity and happiness of our residents: the Hall is their home, not ours, and we give our residents the greatest say possible in how their daily lives at Denville should be.
Each resident has a private room with en suite shower and WC. All rooms are fully carpeted, with full furniture available if you don't wish to bring furniture, including a TV. Each has a call system to summon help. We hope you will want to bring favourite small pieces of furniture, pictures, ornaments, a wireless or music centre, and so on.
We have two portable phones just for incoming calls (the staff bring the phone to you when someone calls) and a payphone. Most residents choose to have a BT line installed in their room, but this is at your own cost.
Denville has a wide range of public rooms - from upstairs sitting rooms and a conservatory, to the Green Room, our popular bar, the library and other rooms. These are perfect for when you are entertaining visitors. We take a selection of newspapers and magazines, and many residents play Scrabble, Bridge and other games. The grounds are large with several distinct gardens.
There is a big dining room with small tables so that meals can be a time for conversation and friendship. We take pride in our food, offering as it does, good cooking, fresh fruit and vegetables and imaginative menus. Special diets are no problem - there is always a vegetarian choice and diets are easily organised. Guests are very welcome to join you for meals; a nominal charge is made for this.
We arrange outings and events (particularly at the request of groups of residents), we celebrate special days, and we do hold parties - but whether you join in or not is a personal matter. Our residents themselves often arrange birthday celebrations and parties, and we are delighted to help out with this.
We have a volunteer who does personal shopping for our residents. For those who can shop for themselves we provide a weekly taxi to Northwood, where there is a supermarket, chemist, and many other useful shops. Hairdressing and aromatherapy are provided by experienced practitioners. Our GP holds regular surgeries at Denville but you are free to choose any local doctor.
The Hall is well staffed and trained nurses are on duty twenty four hours a day. While they are always available to help and advise, the aim at Denville is to keep you independent as long as possible. To this end we will agree with you how much or little help you need so that you are neither smothered with kindness nor left to fend alone. The presence of trained staff means that hospitalisation is seldom necessary. When it is unavoidable the resident's room is held for him until his return.
We have as few rules as possible but there are two that we do have to observe. It is not possible for us to accept pets, much as we love them, and fire regulations do not permit us to allow smoking in the bedrooms. However there are designated smoking areas, so we are not trying to reform anyone against their will.
Eligibility for admission is based on your theatrical history (decided by the House Committee of actors, in confidence), and on medical criteria (based on your own doctor's and others reports, and the judgement of our own registered manager). In the first instance, please telephone the Home Manager, Mrs Eve Talmor on 01923 825 843.
Copies of our inspection report are available on the internet or upon request from us. If you would like to see our comments on the inspection report they have to come directly from us.
